Busy Bee

Pops came to town today to visit and run errands with me. We had a great day! Walked to Broadacre to start with a beverage and a Doughbot doughnut, dropped some paper work off at the district office, conquered IKEA, and we even shared a veggie burger from Burgers and Brew. I can't explain how nice it was to have my dad in town- not just the practical aspect of having a vehicle to do errands with, but just to talk and hang out with someone who "gets" me was appreciated. It was his maiden voyage at an IKEA and it was fun to be able to share some ideas about how to set up Luke and my dream Loft.

Speaking of homes, we are not looking to move any time soon. We have a one bedroom with cheap rent and an amazing location. The inside is nice enough, but we are trying to use out small space more efficiently. (that's where the trip to IKEA comes in handy) I am glad that we are investing some money and time into making it nicer and more organized. It's fun to dream about our ideal living space, but I think it's important to value and be happy with where we are now.. Especially if we are going to be here a few more years.

Right now I can't wait for Luke to get home and see what I built! :) Warning, it's not actually that exciting, but it was a good little project for me and more storage space is always appreciated.

Thai Tuesday

Once or twice a week Luke will meet me at the studio after class on his bike and ride home with me. It's really nice because it makes the chore of riding home after teaching and taking feel like a treat. Since our fridge is pretty barren right now, we picked up Thai food and rode over to McKinley to eat by the rose garden. It was beautiful weather and it felt like the perfect impromptu date night. I love summer evenings!

REEL-Bike in Theater

Last night I experienced the perfect Sacramento summer night filled with friends, bikes, a free movie, and deliciousness. The event was a Bike-in Theater hosted at the The Greens Hotel .  The Hotel is this really rad eco-friendly, boutique hotel that reminded me of our stay at Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. The courtyard had food trucks parked right inside selling delicious nibbles for pretty good prices, and there was a little patio/bar area by the pool serving local Track Seven Brewery beer and playing great tunes. The hotel rooms surrounding the lobby were open and filled by local boutiques who had set up little pop-up shops to sell their wares. From the hotel staff, to the vendors, and the other movie goers-- everyone seemed to be in great spirits. Our posse of 7 were among the few who actually rode their bikes, but we had a warm reception when we rolled in. We scored a great spot right in front to lay out our blankets and enjoyed some shopping, eating and drinking before watching Indiana Jones on the big screen. It was a perfect summer night. AND it's going to be happening every first and third Thursday August-October. There is already a plan to meet at Golden Bear first next time, so we can get an even bigger group to ride together.

My only regret is that we left our Canon at home, but next time, we will for sure bring it.

#LAUNCH2012

Sacramento played host to a pretty incredible week of events celebrating music, art, fashion, design, and architecture. (kinda up our alley, right?) Per usual, we had a great time celebrating all of the above, and also showing some love for Sacramento itself. Look out world, Sac is comin up!

Culinary adventure

Grilled white corn, zucchini, and eggplant, marinated Tempeh and Serrano peppers, all sautéed together. Served fajita style with salsa, cheese, and of course-- avocado! Yummers! Special thank you for the help from the in laws.

Sac to the Bay

Our crazy, busy, exciting last week included a fun evening in the bay. We drove to Brandon and Britta's in Oakland, and then rode our bikes over to the new Public Market in Emeryville. Hot Italian is a rad restaurant in Sac with amazing pizzas and an appreciation for cycling. They opened in Emeryville awhile ago, but this was the grand opening of the Public Market there. (i'm not entirely sure on the details, but google it). Anyhow, it's awesome when world's collide. Our friends, Steve and Steph, were there as well. (Hot Italian's sweet bikes are mounted on the wall using Steve's Bike Valets). Our favorite beer maker, J.E. Paino was there pouring Sacramento's own, Ruhstaller Beer. AND as if it could get better, there was this incredible product being demod by Revo Lights. Essentially it consists of lights for your bike, but they actually clip into the wheels, and throw light out onto the ground as you ride... again, I don't know the specifics, but it's worth googling. Funny thing is, one of the Revo boys, was a friend of mine  who I had met years ago in Sac, and who I had been long wanting to introduce to Lucas. Small, small world.

So, to sum it up... great night of supporting fantastic businesses and good people.
