Date night.

Because it's Tuesday and that is reason enough to enjoy a glass of wine, share tapas, and indulge in a small black sesame gelato.

Happy colors

For a happy day in third grade!

Case of the Mondays...

Today was without a doubt, the most miserable subbing experience I have ever had. Rather than dwelling on the suckiness, I'll focus on the positive and state that I couldn't be happier to be almost home and making dinner for my wonderful husband. (That and Safeway was a relatively easy and fast experience). Not always the case, so today I am thankful :)

Weekend Update:

Family, pretzels, friends, pajamas party, bacon, snuggles, long walks, caffeine fixes, putt-putt, champagne, sequins, Afro, disco dancing, smiles, sleeping in, bike rides, collaborative doodling, movies, and quality Us time.... This is as close as it gets to heaven on Earth.

Pics to follow...

Disco Fever (fone foto version)

Disco dance party at the LevelUp Lounge that is behind our apt meant three things: champagne Pre party, sequins, and the debut of my Afro. Another evening that reaffirmed that we have incredible, amazing, and fun friends!

Ps- sadly Lucas was not a fan on my new do. (I think he was still pretty impressed with Steph's craftsmanship though).

Travel

Luke shared this with me, and I love it.

"Travel is little beds and cramped bathrooms. It’s old television sets and slow Internet connections. Travel is extraordinary conversations with ordinary people. It’s waiters, gas station attendants, and housekeepers becoming the most interesting people in the world. It’s churches that are compelling enough to enter. It’s McDonald’s being a luxury. It’s the realization that you may have been born in the wrong country. Travel is a smile that leads to a conversation in broken English. It’s the epiphany that pretty girls smile the same way all over the world. Travel is tipping 10% and being embraced for it. Travel is the same white T-shirt again tomorrow. Travel is accented sex after good wine and too many unfiltered cigarettes. Travel is flowing in the back of a bus with giggly strangers. It’s a street full of bearded backpackers looking down at maps. Travel is wishing for one more bite of whatever that just was. It’s the rediscovery of walking somewhere. It’s sharing a bottle of liquor on an overnight train with a new friend. Travel is “Maybe I don’t have to do it that way when I get back home."

Saturday adventures

Subey passed smog, saw some sweet street art, practiced Yin, and had a little treat. For now, Rum Diary, and then Golden Bear for some 90's jams by Shaun Slaughter. I'm a happy girl.

Rule breaker.

I love rules. Always have, thought I always would. However the more rules you make, the smaller your comfort zone becomes. Lately I've been trying to extend my comfort zone by breaking a few rules. The other night I had a wrap with chicken in it (I've had a No Meat Rule for the past few years). And much to my surprise and delight-- I liked it. It tasted good and nothing dreadful happened. Life as I know it, went on. I don't know how often ill be ordering meat, but it's nice to have one less rule to follow in my life.

Bricks and Trees

I've always admired both, but for very different reasons. Trees are organic, imperfect, ever growing, and symbolically deep rooted. They can live independently or in groves, and they can be cultivated to provide shade, food, and supplies. Bricks are hand built to specific dimensions. They are laid in a certain designed manner and if done so correctly they withstand, endure and fortify.

Trees alone are pretty, but I am not one to fantasize about living in a tree house. Big cities excite me, but I would not prefer to see shades of grey surrounding my world. What I love most about where I live is that there is an evident existence of both trees and bricks. Nature and society. Organic and Inorganic. I see examples of buildings and trees which have endured and withstood tests of time. Houses have been standing for hundreds of years, and the trees that shade the sidewalks have stood to see generations of people moving in and out. Making changes, learning, growing, loving.

In the back of my mind I have been somewhat cognizant of these thoughts, but as I take more and more walks and spend less and less time in the car, I am becoming more mindful and appreciative.

**i love monkeying around with phone photos, playing with different effects, increasing saturation, cropping, decreasing sharpness, etc. but I resisted the urge with these. All of these photos are straight from my phone, as I saw them on my walk this morning. (But that's not to say I won't still play with them and put some up on Instagram later)
