Memorial @ the Cabin

We had a great Memorial Weekend up at my parents' cabin. It was so nice to relax for a few days. We saw a pretty full range of weather that started with rainy evening in with board games, and then the weekend ended with us playing in the pool under the warm sunshine.  ...we also squeezed in a pretty fun attempted-acro yoga afternoon inside.

Hello 3 day weekend!

After a busy busy week-- Open House was Thursday and my parents came up to see my classroom in a swirl of floating clouds, rainbows, flying kites, and swimming fish (kindergarten is the best!!!)-- we finally made it to Friday.

Luke bought tickets for us to see "Beer & Ballet" and it was absolutely incredible! I had been dying to see it and I had heard nothing but excellent things about the performances. It was perfect for us because while Luke drank what looked to be delicious Ruhstaller beer, I was completely entranced by the dancers. What is really special about this show is that everything is choreographed by the dancers themselves and each choreographer talks a bit about each piece prior to (very VH1 Storyteller-esque). It was very intimate and we for there early to get seats in the front row. The dancers were so close we literally had to pull our legs under our chairs every time they ran by. I totally dug it! I am home and can't stop working on my turn out. (I haven't given up my dream that some day I'll be a dancer-- just have to suck it up and actually take some classes first)

For now, we are looking forward to a few days of respite at the cabin. ...after my 7:30am MRI tomorrow. Blah. I will be happier when we get through this.

Bumps in the road...

I have become a regular at my neighborhood Rite Aid.
The past couple weeks have not been the easiest for the two of us. I was recently diagnosed with Epilepsy after a scary Grande Mal seizure that I had after school. I don't know what was scarier, me waking up confused in the hospital or Lucas listening to a voice mail vaguely mentioning his wife was in the ER. Luckily the staff couldn't have been more comforting or kind, and the worst of my injuries was a nasty chunk I bit out of my tongue.
Since then, life has been considerably different. I have lost my license, and I am adjusting to being dependent on amazing in laws, parents, and Lucas. I also am unable to drink any alcohol due to my medication. I have never been a huge drinker, but at times like this when all I want is a big glass of wine, it is frustrating to abstain. I am also dealing with changes in regards to work.I decided to take the rest of the month off of teaching Yoga (not something I was happy to do), and I have been relying on my fellow teachers to cover a few of my yard duties at school due to my various Dr's appointments. This may not sound like a big deal, but asking for help and stepping away from my responsibilities is not something that is easy for me.
However, through these changes I have come to even more so realize and appreciate how fortunate I really am. I cannot count the text messages, emails, and calls that have come in from concerned friends and family. (not to mention flowers, chocolate, and delicious dinners) I feel blessed to have such good people in our lives.
As far as our plan (I do love having a plan), the tests are hopefully over, we just wait for results, and then trust the Dr (whom I love!!!) to choose the best form of medication for me. I am sure that soon enough this will just be a drop in the bucket, or a bump in the road. That is how Lucas tells me to think of this... We have a long happy road to travel together, and we have hit a little bump. Actually to be literal, the bumps and bruises are already starting to fade and heal which is the fortunate proof that life goes on. We continue to move forward.

A little help from my friends

It has been a difficult week, we have what is sure to be another trying week in front of us. I am fortunate to have such kind friends, supportive family, and such a devoted husband by my side.

A little art therapy...

Word update to come soon... but for now photos!

Tour de Cure

All the while I am fiddling around online, Lucas is on a 100mile ride... on a fixed gear. I am so damn proud of my man. :) Meanwhile, I am going to go enjoy my day in Napa while I wait for him to finish. :)

Derby Day at Momo and Pop's

Momo and Pop hosted their first (Annual?) Kentucky Derby Party and it was a fun afternoon with our family (Herrick's included in that) and our good friends, Natalie and Mike.

What a sweet Daddy, that water was FREEZING!
They have been together for 20 years, and they are still glowing.
