Bike kids

a few photos we found floating around the interwebs:

I have to say, if you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be proudly tagging/posting pictures of myself rocking a helmet and skin tight cycling clothes I would not have believed it. I have to thank my loving sister in law, Emily, for making me realize how important a helmet is. Also, I gotta thank my husband for building me a beautiful, and fun as hell bike.

I am right front and center with my RevoLights flashing.

 Those are our beautiful RevoLights!

Spontaneous.

Not an adjective that has described me much in the past, but this weekend we were spontateous! To start with, I haven't taken a "vacation" day since I started lululemon in August. It's not that I can't, I get vacation pay. I just happen to love my job, and if it weren't for Luke constantly reminding me to stop checking my work email on my "off" days, I would probably work 7 days a week- mostly because it really doesn't feel like work. I love what I do.

Anyhow, months ago Lucas and I heard about the Wolf Pack Hustle aka: LA Marathon Crash Race. It is a huge bicycle race that begins at 4:00am and covers the route of the LA Marathon. The significance of this is pretty huge because with all the traffic in LA, this is essentially the ONLY time in the year it is possible to ride 26.2 miles through some of the coolest spots in the city with absolutely no traffic.. It's completely blocked off for the marathon- which means no stopping for red lights, no stopping for nothing- you ride. Well, it has been going on for 5+ years and people fly in from all over the country to participate. Technically it is illegal, but for all the years prior the police have graciously looked the other way.

Hearing all this- we obviously wanted in and were invited to ride with the guys from RevoLights. We were super pumped I requested days off work, and then 5 days ago the race was canceled. The police threatened to arrest the people who put it on, and we thought we would have to bow out. What was a major bummer was that I was so excited about this race I gave word to someone who leads our cycling dept in Vancouver and he sent my regional manager back with a cycling kit for me to wear to the race. Saturday I had some major mixed emotions as we drove to Berkely to pick up my kit, thinking that it wasn't actually going to be worn in LA at all. To our surprise, shortly after we arrived in the bay, we got an email saying the event was back on! The only change was that it had to be a "fun ride" rather than a race-- essentially just means no medals given out, but it would still be going down. Mind you- we got this email at around 2:00pm while in Berkeley. The race started at 4:00am in LA the next day... And we were going to lose an hour due to daylight savings. It took us about a minute to realize neither one of us had work on Monday, so let's do it- let's roll. We drove back to Sac, packed a bag and bikes, drove down to LA. Slept for about 3 hours in the car, geared up, did the ride (which was one of the coolest things I have ever done), ended up in Santa Monica, rode another 18 miles back to our car, got coffee while cheering on the marathon runners, drove to the beach for a two hour nap, and just got back home. Totally spontaneous, completely unlike me, and I LOVED most every minute. (There was one ugly hill on the way back to the car that I was NOT happy about!) over all, we got great miles in, I got to rock my lululemon kit, we were flashing our Revos, saw some incredible streetart (Myla &Dabs, Shepard Fairey, David Flores and the ArtofChase-same guy who's work we saw all over Europe!) win. win. win. I am a happy girl.

Pictures to follow later- but for now here is this little gem. Love this man so much!
Seriously, the fact that we spent all that time I. The car together and actually we're giggling 98% of the time is wild. He rocks my world.

Beer Week!

So funny thing is I am actually not a big beer drinker. I mean, I like a reappy hoppy IPA, and I love Belgian blondes, and I can't say no to a creamy stout. Oh also lately I have been really liking sours and ciders... So maybe I do like beer. I just am not one of those people that ever craves an "ice cold coors light". And when given the choice, 9 times outta 10 I am going to choose a glass of champagne. The bubbles just do it for me. So festive.      I digress.

Anyhow, we are amidst the Sacramento Beer Week and it is a week that Sacramento does well. Being the loyalists and localists that we are, this is a great week for us to be out and about the town. We have our usual Saturday routine down pretty well- we walk to Farmer's Market for a cappuccino, I go to ballet class, he tinkers with our bikes, and we collect our friends for a ride out to BikeDogBrewing in west sac. Usually I have one beer and switch to water while we play foosball. (They have carbonated water- I tell ya, I love those bubbles). Anyhoo- we thought we'd share the love a bit more yesterday, and we got on our bikes and executed the bike to beer trifecta. We were able to hit BikeDogBrewing, Track7, and New Helvetia. And I treated myself to a beer at each place! (We got around 15 veeeeeeeery windy miles in on our bikes, so I felt like I deserved it).

Now, Luke is headed off to his new job at the coffee shop (no more stuffy office job for him- yahooooo!), and I em taking advantage of a rare Sunday off and about to take another ballet class before a lululemon goal setting event tonight. This is the good stuff for us.
These are my Bust A Move pants... Definite lululemon favorites.

Also- here are a few fun pics from my parents' visit on Wednesday.
Momo just loved my wunderunders (Lucas is always SOOOO excited when the conversation goes to lululemon)
And these are some of our favorite brewers.
