Can't stop us.

One the hottest day of the year so far we:
-took an acro yoga class at Lululemon
-played kickball
-went skateboarding (I did way better this time!)
-celebrated our favorite two year old
-walked to and from multiple locations
AND
We participated in our first Gold Sprints (Fixed Gear Bike races)
Luke before Round One

(He crushed it.)
Me getting down and dirty. I lost, but it was a solid race.
Luke gettin it during the second round. (The guy that beat him ended up getting second overall.)

Whew!!! The Nissens are pooped. Time for an episode of Miami Vice before bed. Tomorrow we are waking up early for a bike ride to Folsom for delicious Sunflower Drive In before hearing Viceroy at Wunderbar!

Life is Art

At least our lives are filled with art. All forms. I've realized most of our close friends are compiled of graphic designers, painters, carpenters, photographers, musicians, DJ's, jewelry makers, stylists, and just over all creative folk. It's very exciting to see that slowly but surely Sacramento is not just embracing, but actively supporting the arts and so are we.

We went to a gallery opening last night and I was overwhelmed by the diversity in the art itself, the artists, and also the people mingling about. Something especially neat for us, was we got the chance to meet the street artist know. As BAMR who's incredible murals are just to the right of Lucas' on K street, and I hadn't realized, but BAMR also created a piece that is just to the left of Lucas' mural on J street as well. Last night he told Luke when they finally met that it was like they were destined to be side by side. :)

Queen of Hearts which inspired his mural on K
A close up I had taken last week of the mural
Side by side

We have another close friend who is pretty big in the cycling scene and he is putting on Gold Sprints at Golden bear this weekend. Essentially from what I hear (this will be my first time) the bikes are on rollers and you sprint like hell and race against the person next to you to try to win really cool prizes. Kris enlisted Luke to help him jazz up the bike frames we're gonna be racing on. Here are some pics from that-
Before-
After- and I had to sneak my yoga bottle in for good measure.

LOVE in Sacramento

I don't know her, but I loved her shirt!
Luke likes to send me messages in my soup. Luckily they are easy enough to decode.

Back at it.

Home from what was a glorious vacation. We are so fortunate to have spent the time that we did away, but I must say it feels good to be home. I love traveling, but it sure makes it nice when you have a solid home base to come back to.

We have been full steam ahead in sac (despite me still fighting some wheezing due to what turned out to be bronchitis). Luke has been working on a new mural on 8th and K. He was chosen along with a few other super talented artists to add some color and design to what had been a big ol block of plain boarding that had become the site for crappy tagging and half ass graffiti. (Side note- I could not be more excited about how Sacramento seems to be making a good effort to clean up downtown.)

I am back to teaching and taking yoga, and today I subbed my last day of the school year for Sac City Unified. I am super pleased to report that I rode my bike all the way home from school rather than getting a ride home like usual. It was a distance, but the weather was nice and I am getting acquainted with the bike trail. In other news, I saw my neurologist yesterday, and if things maintain then I should be able to petition to get my license back after July 31. I'm not quite sure what my job situation is going to be like after summer so that was very good news!
And one of us in SF for The Limousines album release party last week.
